Friend Friday - Sue Brown

Welcome all. I told you I decided to do "Friend Fridays" in order to try something new and give you more to read. This is the KICK-OFF FRIDAY and we have here Sue Brown. I met Sue this year in Tampa at Rainbow Con. She was simply delightful, but I did not get enough time or enough hugs. I plan to remedy that next year! I also did NOT get a picture with her.

This is Nicole Dennis, Michael Kudo, and Sue Brown

Sue agreed to do an interview and I think that will more than likely be the format of many FRIEND FRIDAYS. Stop by and see what various authors have to say and check out their websites and books. :)

I hope you enjoy the posts.

•       What inspires your writing?

Sue - So many things inspire me. I’m a news junkie, particularly LGBT news, and anything can trigger an idea. For instance The Sky is Dead was triggered by the spate of LGBT suicides in 2012. The Isle of… Where? was inspired by a short family holiday on the Isle of Wight. Hairy Harry’s Car Seat came from a comment of one of my daughter’s friends about dog hair on car seats. Morning Report was because I like cowboys. What? I can be shallow too.

Me- I find that very funny:) Cowboys are niice.

•       When did you start writing m/m romance?

Sue - I started in Torchwood fanfiction in 2007, but it took me a while to venture into original fiction. Nothing Ever Happens was my first longer story and that was written in 2008. I got my first story published in 2010 in a Dreamspinner anthology. Wow, it seems so long ago now.

Me- I believe we've been writing for the same amount of time. Cool. Nice to see we have things in common. I think I like interviews :)

•       Are you a full time author?

Sue - Yes, I am. Aren’t I lucky? I finished my degree in 2012 and decided to try and write full time. I wanted to be around at home for my teenage kids, and in hindsight it’s proved to be a very good decision.

•       Who is your favorite author?

Sue - Too many favourite authors to answer that question!! ;). Also, I value my life.

Me- Good answer …lol

•       How many books have you written so far?

Sue - Forty plus. Not sure exactly how many. I write short stories to novel-length, but in my heart I’m a short story writer.

Me- YOU ROCK!!

•       Tell us a little about your novel, Frankie & Al

Sue - Frankie meets his ideal man; only the first time he’s drunk, the second time he gets knocked over and the third… well, you’ll need to read the book.

•       How long did it take you to complete it?

Sue - I can’t remember. A few weeks I think. I’m a fairly slow writer but Frankie & Al flowed quite well.

•       Who is your favorite character in the novel and why?

Sue - Definitely Frankie. He’s funny and vulnerable with a sharp tongue. I’d love to be that quick, but I’m the one searching for the quick response.

•       How much of yourself did you manifest into your favorite character?

Sue - As I said above, I guess Frankie is who I’d like to be. I projected my ‘ideal’ self into him.

•       When someone reads Frankie & Al, what do you hope they gain from reading it?

Sue - I’d like them to feel they’ve had a laugh. I write so many heavy-going books. This was purely for fun.

•       Can you share four things you’ve learned about the business?

Sue - Promote, promote, promote and sit on your hands when there is a drama. Seriously, stay away from the drama llamas. It will suck your creative energy. And if you don’t promote you’re committing career suicide.

Me- words of wisdom!

•       How do you keep your creative "spark" alive?

Sue - Dog walks, moaning to my friends and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

•       What is your suggestion or piece of advice to new and upcoming writers?

Sue - Write the book, finish the book, submit the book. It’s not rocket science and I promise that feeling when you get an acceptance email is incredible. So do it and tell me all about it.

Me- Sounds about right!

•       Where we can find you on the Internet?

Sue - You can find me on

my blog: http://suebrownsstories.blogspot.co.uk/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/suebrownstories
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/suebrownstories.

•       Could you please share your favorite excerpt from Frankie & Al with us?

Frankie & Al

JANE STARED at Frankie openmouthed. “How can you shovel that much food into your mouth? Don’t answer that until you’ve chewed!”

“Frankie’s got a huge gob,” Charlotte said.

Frankie chewed obediently because Jane was scary. Charlotte he would have just sprayed with crumbs. “It’s a gift,” he said and took another huge mouthful.

“Ugh!” Jane pulled a face. “You like this man?”

Charlotte grinned at Frankie. “I love this man. He makes my day at work bearable.”

“Ditto.” Frankie loved her and her husband, David. “Otherwise I’d have to put up with Edward Shitbag all by myself.”

“You’d have killed him by now,” Charlotte said.

“Fucking right I would. That man deserves to be hanged by his own polyester tie.”

“He can’t be that bad,” Jane protested. She was cuddled next to Joan, quiet and sleepy. Tina and Lindsay had gone home after the club, protesting their exhaustion.

“This is the man that believes all lesbians haven’t been porked by the right man,” Frankie said.

“Kill the bastard painfully,” Jane said flatly.

He grinned at her.

Charlotte moaned as she put the last of her sandwich in her mouth.

“Good?” Frankie asked.

“The best. Breakfast at Greasy Joe’s in the morning with my favorite people. What could be better?”

“I’ll remind David you said that,” Joan said.

“Most of my favorite people.” Charlotte licked her fingers. “He is my soul mate.”

“Aw, isn’t that sickening.” Frankie pretended to gag.

“Just because you haven’t found your soul mate, you don’t have to knock mine.”

“You really believe in soul mates?”

“You don’t?” Joan asked.

Frankie looked at the couple, huddled as close as they could in public, and Charlotte, who adored her husband passionately. “Maybe for some people, sweetness, but not for me.”

“Why not?”

“Because guys like me have fun and sex, not cuddles on the sofa and walks with the dog on the common. We don’t get the beige life.” Frankie had seen heteronormative life described in a book as “beige,” and he liked that description. So many of his straight friends seemed happy to settle for dull and boring.

“You don’t get it or don’t want it?” Jane asked.

None of the girls seemed offended by his rejection of their lives.

“I….” Frankie had to think for a moment. “I don’t want it.”

Charlotte nodded. “You never want to settle down?”

He shook his head. “Not me. I just want to have fun, you know?”

“I know, sweetie,” Charlotte patted his arm. “But at some point even that gets old and the sofa looks real comfortable.”

Frankie didn’t need reminding that he was too old to be a twink. He beamed at the girls. “I’m going home to get my beauty sleep. I’ll see you on Monday.”

“What are you doing this weekend?” Charlotte asked. “We’ve got a barbeque if you want to come.”

Frankie tried to think of a way of declining without saying he’d rather gouge his eyes out with a red-hot poker. A couple of hours in the company of happy couples and their brats were his idea of hell.

Charlotte burst out laughing. “Frankie, if you could see your face! Don’t worry, I won’t be upset if you stay at home and count your ingrowing hairs.”

“I don’t have any ingrowing hairs,” he said, thoroughly offended.

“Course you don’t. See you on Monday.”

Frankie kissed them on the cheek and headed for the door. Dawn had arrived with a pale pink-and-blue sky, and thankfully no rain. He decided to walk home, relaxed and full, and ready to sleep. At this time of the morning, he could cut off a few minutes by walking through the station concourse without negotiating hundreds of tourists.

He stepped off the curb, and after that, he wasn’t sure what happened except his world spun crazily out of control. He heard the sound of a car horn, and Frankie was thrown off his feet, only to land on the ground, an excruciating pain in his hip.

What the fuck?

“He just stepped out in front of me. You saw that, didn’t you? He didn’t look at all. He was probably after a score.”

Frankie opened his eyes and glared at the man standing over him. “Thanks for your concern, arsehole, but I’m not a druggie. Give me your phone number, address, and insurance details,” he said brusquely. At least, he aimed for brusque rather than weak and feeble.

The man sniffed and vanished out of sight. Frankie contemplated getting up. On the other hand, the ground was comfortable and he had nowhere to be.

“An ambulance is on its way. You have a habit of getting into trouble, don’t you?”

Frankie turned his head to deny the charge and was fixed by the most beautiful green eyes he had ever seen. “Take me home,” he said and was rewarded with a smile from the man.

“Huh, a faggot. Might have known.”

The driver was really getting on Frankie’s nerves. “Give me the details and then you can get lost.”

A hand squeezed Frankie’s, and Green Eyes said, “Give me the details. You can talk to the police and I’ll look after my boy here, before he gets into any more trouble.”

“Frankie,” Frankie said.

“What?”

“My name’s Frankie.” Frankie gave a melting smile to the nice man with dark hair and gorgeous green eyes. Then he glared at the driver. “That’s Mr. Lawsuit to you.”

“Listen, you little—”

Green Eyes sighed. “How the hell did you manage to get to adulthood, Frankie? The ambulance is here, thank God.”

Frankie was really pleased because fuck knows the pain in his hip was hurting like a bitch, and no one seemed to give a shit about him, and his mum would wash his mouth out with soap and water if he kept swearing, and….

His brain shut off as Green Eyes kissed him.

“What the…?” he said faintly.

“You were talking again, Frankie. It seemed the best way to shut you up.”

Frankie was about to ask if he could do it again when they were interrupted by a woman wearing a green monstrosity. Seriously, couldn’t they find anyone to design better uniforms than this boiler suit?

“What’s happened here?” she asked perkily.

Oh great, a perky girl. Even her ponytail swung in a perky fashion. Frankie hated her on sight.

“Frankie got hit by the car. He’s been conscious all the time.”

The girl smiled at Frankie. “How are you feeling, Frankie?”

He rolled his eyes. “How do you think I feel? Like I’ve been hit by a fucking car.”

Her smile didn’t fade, but Green Eyes said, “I’ll wash your mouth out with soap if you don’t start being nice to the lady.”

“You could always spank my arse,” Frankie suggested hopefully.

“You’ll have to spank your boyfriend later,” the paramedic said. “We need to get him to hospital.”

“He’s not my boyfriend,” Green Eyes said. “I was on my way to meet my mum and I saw the incident.”

“Ah, sorry. I thought I saw you kissing him.”

“You did. It’s a remarkably good way of shutting him up.”

“It only works with hot men,” Frankie said hastily in case the paramedic got any ideas.

“Understood,” she said with a completely straight face and then ruined it by grinning at him. “Way to go to pick up a guy.”

She held out a hand for a high five. Frankie tried hard to respond, but the pain was making it difficult for him to move.

The paramedic frowned. “Where does it hurt, Frankie?”

“Everywhere.” Frankie swallowed back the rising nausea. “I feel like shit.”

She was all professional now, feeling down his body. “We’re going to get you to hospital now.”

Frankie tried to nod, but she stayed the action. “Just stay still and let us move you. We’re going to put a collar on you so don’t move.”

Green Eyes loomed over him. “I’ve got to meet my mum, Frankie, or I’m in trouble. I’ll leave you with the ladies.” He bent down and brushed Frankie’s mouth with his. “My mum is seriously ill, or there is nothing that would keep me from coming with you. I’ll see you again. This is the second time, and things like this always run in threes. Try not to drink so much next time.”

Frankie frowned. The second time? Next time? What the hell was he talking about? What was his telephone number? But he didn’t get a chance to ask as he was loaded into an ambulance. The doors closed on hot Green Eyes, and Frankie was left with Ms. Perky Green Boiler Suit.

Someone up there had a sick sense of humor.

Something Old, Something New, Something borrowed… oh wait, this isn't a wedding.

I have this theory that catchy blog titles catch readers' attention. Or maybe it is iterating stories. Or interesting bloggers. In that case, I normally fail. I'm not all that interesting.

So, SOMETHING OLD….

Did you know that My Roommate's a Jock? Well, Crap! is out in German??? It is still selling over on Amazon.de just not as high up on the charts. If you know any German speaking people, or German's in general, pass along the word. I know not everyone speaks English, so it is important to show publishers of the need to translate into other languages. Luckily, Dreamspinner Press does do this! I am privileged to be one of the ones who gets a GERMAN translation. I'm so excited. Wouldn't it be cool to have French or Italian as well??? You never know. Fingers crossed. If sales go well in German, that MIGHT be in their sights. :)

Here is the BUY LINK.

SOMETHING NEW….

Names Can Never Hurt Me is up for Pre-order. YES!!! I finally have a release date. I said it in the previous post and now here. NAMES has a release date of August 11, 2014. I am very excited about this! I am setting up a blog tour as we speak. The issue is, HOW THE HECK do I think of something unique for every blog? I have no clue.

So far, I have:
July 20 - Online chat with Rainbow Gold Reviews. Not sure what that entails, but I will be online to chat with you. Come join me.
August 4 - starts a blog tour for GRL and my newest release. I am currently thinking of something unique for Jay.
August  7 - Prism Book Alliance
August 11 - The Blogger Girls
August 14 - A Novel Approach
August 16 - Jeff Adams
August 17 - Online chat/FB takeover of Dreamspinner's FB page. Come on by!
August 20 - GGR reviews
August 27 - Joyfully Jay one more time.

My question to you all is, "WHAT THE HECK do I talk about on all these blogs?" What do you want to know? I am thinking of questions, possibly a character interview, but I am not good at thinking outside the box in this regard. Help me think of questions you may want answered.

In the mean time, tell people, spread the word, about my up-coming release on August 11. (Tom's Birthday!) Names Can Never Hurt Me coming soon!!! This is a 340 page read for those who love long books. Dreamspinner also gives a free eBook with the purchase of paperback. It really does! I ordered The Art of Breathing in paperback, and got the eBook free. I wanted TJ's signature. I know that the first 20 (or more) books bought on DSP are signed. I got one! (Thanks TJ.)

SOMETHING BORROWED…. Or rather, they are "borrowing" my blog. I am going to start "Friend Fridays" for other authors to stop by and leave excerpts, interviews, and/ or giveaways. This Friday Sue Brown kicks off the event. Every Friday will have someone new stopping by to share about their books. Sue Brown, Jeff Adams, Gregory Payne, Chris Shirley, TM Smith, DC Kenn, Stephen Del Mar, Sarah Madison, etc… so do not miss out!

I have worked out a schedule for the blog guests on a NOTE on my Facebook page for anyone friends with me there. I'll also post a schedule again here.

I guess that is all for now.

Love you guys.

And just be aware, I am pimping the heck out of this book. I have one release a year so this one has to do well!! PLEASE. Fingers Crossed. I hope people like it!

The DATE is August 11th!

The very long wait is over. Dreamspinner sent me the buy links for Names Can Never Hurt Me this morning. It is up for PRE-ORDER. August 11th is the release date. One month to spread the word. One month to convince people this is their next favorite book. Okay, maybe not that extreme. You may really, really, like it though. Jeff told me "it is an absolutely wonderful book. It’s soooo romantic and packs a good message too.” Tina said she "never wants my name on something she knows would be poorly received" when she beta read and assured me she liked it. I have to rely on these people because as we all know, I always think I am boring. I always doubt my writing ability. These are honest people. Yes, they are friends, but I met them through the M/M community connections. I have to trust this community of tight nit people. SO MANY online are friends of mine through Facebook and then in real life because of the genre and the incredible authors, readers, fans, reviewers, etc. I have met through LGBT fiction. You are great people. I will trust my friends who told me it was a good book I wrote.

Now YOU have to trust them, trust me, and Pre-order, or order the book. :D

Names Can Never Hurt Me is COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!!! And I can not wait. It is very cool that I am scheduled for a blog tour about it and The Blogger Girls happen to have me scheduled for August 11th. YAY!! I will post the rest of my blog tour once I have it figured out and let you all know.

Donna (from a comment on Blogspot) guessed August 12th, and since she is the closest, she can have an eBook Copy of NAMES, OR any other book of mine she wants. Thank you for entering a date. And NO, Kayla, the guess of "NOW!" doesn't count. ;) Donna, comment about what you'd like or e-mail me. I will need you e-mail address anyway to send you a copy. writerwadekelly@gmail.com

Blurb:
What if sexuality wasn’t a definable thing and labels merely got in the way?

Nick Jones can’t remember a time when he wasn’t part of the in crowd. Everywhere he goes, he stands out as the best looking guy in the room, and women practically fall into bed with him. Then, after kissing Corey on a dare led to much more and on many occasions, Nick’s “screw anything” reputation escalated, but he didn’t care.

When Nick meets RC at the restaurant where he works, it throws his whole life out of whack. Overweight, always sweaty, gay, and hairy like a bear; RC lives up to his dubbed nickname “scruffy dude.” He seems Nick’s complete opposite, but Nick can’t get him out of his head.

Because of peer-pressure and his fears about defining his sexuality, Nick struggles with stepping out of his comfort zone and caring about someone different than himself.  If he’s lucky, somewhere between arrogance and ignorance, Nick might find out what it means to be an adult, but if he’s wrong, he could lose everything.

I guess that is the main thing about this post. RELEASE DATE!!!

SO HELP ME SPREAD THE WORD. Let your friends know. August 11th is the release date for Names Can Never Hurt Me. Blog tour coming soon. Love you guys!

I am off to walk the beach down here in Rodanthe. I go home tomorrow. Short vacation, but better than no vacation.

Spontaneity

Spontaneity can be good, but wow it can cause stress too. The family is going on a spontaneous mini vacation to NC. It was unexpected and a huge blessing. We've been having difficulty and a vacation was probably not going to happen again this year and the children were disappointed but understood. Then a cousin calls late Tuesday night. "Hey, do you want to go to the outer banks? Our beach house is sitting there this week with no renters because of the hurricane." Um, Yeah! But dropping everything last minute and going right then wasn't happening. My husband has a job. And my youngest had a commitment I was not going to cancel because it would hurt her feelings. So, we plan to leave tonight after the commitment. She is doing an Irish Dancing demonstration at a local restaurant. It is exciting. We will drive all night and get down to NC by the break of dawn. YAY! No sleep and children who will want to swim. I guess my son is going to watch them while I sleep. So, ta-da, we are going to go to  the beach. Of course for me that means loads of preparation because it is not a vacation if I have to cook while I'm down there. I was to relax. I want to write! I want to walk on the beach and smell the salt air. I do not want to be stuck in the kitchen. That is like being at home.

Yesterday I planned the drive. I have a map and directions. (Because sometimes the GPS says "Lost satellite signal.") I researched the restaurants in the area. I fed all the animals. Paid some bills. Packed blankets and sheets. AND… I FOUND a HOUSE/DOG SITTER! I'm so glad! She is making me less tense about leaving my dogs. All the other animals are self-sufficient. As long as the house isn't burning down, they are good. This girl I know, and she lives very close. It is easy for her and relieving for me. She is only a text away.

Today I need to cook a few things to take. I have a plan. I find that planning in my head first makes everything fall together easier. Sometimes it might seem like I'm doing nothing, but as I sit and think, I can visualize what needs to be done. I'm doing this with the food. I want it to be easy. I want to make one meal ahead of time. I need to pack things to take because we will get down there at like 4 am. Unless the stores are 24hour things aren't open yet. We will be tire from driving. I need something kids can cook or make while I sleep. PLANNING!!!! So I am going to pack the rest today.

Of course, this is AFTER I go to lunch with some friends! LOL (Priorities) My friends had wanted to take me out for my birthday a few weeks ago, but not everyone could go. Today was a good date and we are all going out. This is the core crowd that I love so deeply that I sometimes cry just being near them. Yes, that woulds terribly mushy, but having LOST ALL my friends 4 years ago when they all stopped talking to me at once, it makes me appreciate the ones I have now even more. THEY LOVE ME FOR WHO I AM! They know more about me than most. I love this group of women so very much! So YES I am going out to lunch! Not canceling that for a little vacation 7+ hours south which takes place in about 14 hours. lol. Why would I do that? I am going to throw some rice on while I write, and make a list of the items  I need to buy.

I totally need to write. I am getting depressed over how long it is taking. I keep thinking of details which only make the book more complicated. I think they are necessary but still! More stuff to add. More things to write. And no time to write it! Or I waste my time, That could be too. I know I have only been writing this one since November (I think) and in the scheme of things that is relatively short compared to the ones that took 14 months or whatever, but I want it done. I have such plans, but they won't happen if one book isn't finished so I can write the next.

You know I struggle with envy and jealousy, right? I am so jealous of people who can write prolifically. I envy the constant flow of publications that keep them in the public eye. I worry so much I'll be forgotten. It might be ridiculous to think that, but I feel it all the time. And then I think, "I just need to write. One word at a time and get my book finished!" But it is easier said than done. I am not like everyone else and I struggle so much. The story is in my head, but getting stout is not easy. And then I think, maybe I'm making this one TOO complicated! I don't know. I think I have to try and write it as I feel it and see what the beta reader thinks. (If Tina is up for it in a few months.) If she says NO! then I'll reconsider how it is written.

So, yeah, I'm a little stressed over getting everything done to leave TONIGHT. I need to cook and pack and write and go to lunch. AND my dog's ear is inflamed and he might need to go to the vet. I cleaned it, but it is still red. I'll see. Never ending here.

I hope all my fans are still hanging on. Names Can Never Hurt Me has to be published sometime! I have done all the stages. I am only waiting at this point. Edits done weeks ago! Galley Proof back TWO weeks ago. Anytime now I should get vellum sheets to sign for the paperback copies. Any time now I should get a pre-buy link and a release date. WHEN??? I don't know.

So the game is still on until I receive the date. It is neat to see people are still guessing a date. The guessing game LINK is HERE. So far, 10 contestants! :) And very few people I recognize the name of. Some are randomly new and that is fun. I never know if anyone reads this blog. lol.

My book is still selling in the German market. JOCK in German is slipping on the chart, but still selling. If you know any German speakers, please recommend it around and have them check it out. There are 4 reviews in German online. :)

The Eric Arvin fund has raised over $80k but I am pretty sure that money is getting sucked away fast from the bills. He will always need our continued support and love. Pray. Donate. Stop by and leave messages on his FB.

I guess that is all for now. Love to you all!

Happy POST 4th of July

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I did. It was relaxing AND I got to write. 4065 words! This means that Misplaced Affection stands at about 87k. This is good! And right about now, knowing what I have written, I am not so concerned with word count as much as plot and details. I know I will be deleting things during edits because I tend to repeat myself, and I also know that some of the details have changed so some scenes are unnecessary. But as I said word count really doesn't matter at this point because I KNOW I will be adding more as I fill in scenes that need to occur, plus it is already novel length. Whatever the word count ends up is just fine. My goal is 110k and it might go over that.

This story is more complicated than the blurb leads you to believe so when the story is finished I think I will redo the blurb. The story is basically the same, but I think a little more in the blurb will help readers to know what they are getting themselves into when they pick it up.

My 4th of July…

I spent time with family. Our family tends to sit around and talk. Yes, boring to some, and normal to others. IDK. We sat around, drank a few beers, talked, and tried to keep the dogs from fighting. I brought my two and my niece has 5. My male dog is young and doesn't back down so he was riling up the other male dogs. They did fine after a while. But then my dog noticed the chickens and had one in his mouth. OH MY! The chicken is fine. And then there are the cats! And one scratched me because it hates my dog. It was an adventure. We ate a lot. Smoked pork butt, ribs, burritos, some cheeses, corn casserole, Spanish rice, taco dip… it was a weekend of never ending food. :) BUT, I did not over eat. I ate little bits at a time. AND I also got to write as we chitchatted around the table on the porch. I sat and typed here and there. 4065 words! Filling in the gaps. I also played Mahjong, and texted my son who was not with us all weekend. (He was with his girlfriend at the beach.) Also listened to the Orioles vs. the Red Sox. YAY O's! We at least took 2 from the Red Sox. (Sorry Matt.)

I also don't know how much I've said in BLOG-form about "coming out" as a writer to more and more of my personal friends. IDK. (and by personal I mean people I know in my town and everyday life. Some of YOU are personal friends but I do not SEE you everyday/every week.)  But I have been doing more of that. Telling people I am published leads to a discussion of WHAT I write and of course there is controversy there and people wondering and questioning WHY of all things I would write GAY romance. It is a tricky subject indeed. I've talked to a few people recently. Only once seemed to be freaking out a tad. We'll see. It is a hard subject. As it says on my bio, I live in a place where it is not real easy to live open in my beliefs. Well, I don't. This is a conservative area and I think people are less accepting of LGBT rights and issues. I think it is changing, but it is still a touchy subject. And then the whole part where a straight woman would write about men loving men???? Oh my gosh! Hot topic. Shock-buttons pushed. Especially because I've said I am a religious person. Some might think I've lost all my faith. IDK. I don't think so. I write my religious views into my characters. Don't I? Have you read The Cost of Loving?

I have said before I write about myself. Me and God are not really separable when God is a huge part of my life. But am I going to write a long theological dissertation about Christianity? Um, no. Some of my characters are Christian. That's it. I write about my views IN my characters. Why? Because I think religion is important. Important to ME, but also important to other people. I was even on a panel at Rainbow Con talking about writing religion and religious characters in genre fiction. I found it is important to others too. Religion is a strong cultural element to many. So this is where I talk about MY views. I write hateful Christians, because they are realistically valid, and I also write more understanding and loving Christians because I have seen those too. I'd like to think I am one. I'd like to think my church is different than most. Is it? I don't know. I have limited experience and have not traveled the country to see. But I like to put my thoughts out there and maybe make people think. There are plenty of thoughts out there about who Jesus is. I don't see anything wrong with presenting MY VIEWS in my characters. Everyone else has the freedom to do the same.

In doing this, I am in that state of tension where I am going to offend people. I'll offend my "church" friends because I dare write GAY characters, and I will offend the mainstream, non-religious populous, because I dare to write about Christianity. Perhaps this is why I have very few readers???? LOL. (funny, but not funny.) Oh well. I am not writing to be rich anyway. I am writing to present the issues. I am writing to make people aware of things that go on in life. I am writing to give people hope. I am writing because some go through REAL pain and need to know they are not alone! I write to touch people. I write as a way to vent and spill out all the stuff I have in my head that can not stay there for fear of it driving me insane. I write because I think I have the God given ability to do it! I have a T-shirt that says "I'm a writer. What's your Superpower?" (I'd post a picture but the T-shirt is all the way down stairs and I can't be bothered to walk that far.) So if writing is my superpower, then I need to use it for good. MY WORDS MATTER. So if you are dealing with bullying, hate crimes, self-esteem, depression, suicide, grief, abuse, etc… There is probably a book for you in my list of publications. I want to write about things people go through.

If there is a topic you need to see fleshed out, HEY--TELL ME!!! I might already have it in the works or I might think of a way to include your issue into the next book. Knowing you are not alone is a HUGE factor in over coming pain. I'll walk thought the pain with you.

What else?

The contest for the GUESSING GAME is still on. You can comment on THAT POST or here, whatever. And on FB. And you can PM me or e-mail or whatever to get in your guess. I have 8 guesses so far as to WHAT DATE Names Can Never Hurt Me will be released. Dreamspinner sets the date and I have not heard about it yet. This is a very romantic story (So I'm told.) If you want to win a eCopy, comment. Guess the release date! OR you can also choose a story from my back log if you wanted to read WLINE or something and haven't bought it yet.

I'm getting together a blog tour of sorts for NAMES. I have a few dates set aside for me in august. I hope you can stop by those bloggers and show support. I was on ZAM's Teaser Tuesday and I don't think anyone commented :( Maybe the excerpt was too hard. Sorry. maybe next time.

Is there anything else? I can't think of anything. Wow, I've hit all kinds of topics here!

over and out!

Guessing game (with a prize!)

In the interest of trying not to pull my hair out waiting for a release date, let's have a little fun.

YOU GUESS THE DATE!

I can't pick it. My publisher does. I will get a pre-order link approximately 4 weeks out, but that is not an exact science either. I was told it is on schedule for release any time between August 1st and August 22. There are a great number of days in there. So PICK ONE.

Like a football pool or a roulette, YOU pick the day you think will be the release date for Names Can Never Hurt Me and let me know your guess. Comment below, PM me on FB, comment on my post on FB, or in the Wade Brigade, or e-mail me.

I will collect the dates you guess. As soon as Dreamspinner tells me the date, or if the buy-link is posted, we will all know the date and thereby know who is the winner. In the event more than one person picks the same release date, I will randomly pick some one from the list of entries. Fair enough?

What do you win? Either a eBook copy of Names Can Never Hurt Me, or something from my back list that you want to read and haven't yet. This way, you'll know if you won or not and can then pre-order my book if you like. Remember, Dreamspinner also offers a free eBook with the purchase of a paperback. And more than likely, the first 20 or so paperbacks ordered are signed on inserted velum sheets.

Remember, the contest is on NOW, July 2nd 2:05pm EST, until I see the posted date or DSP e-mails me. THEY pick the date, I do not, therefore any and all guesses are valid and stand as good a chance as any. Ready. Set. Go.

Make you guess.

Teaser Tuesday on ZA Maxfield's Blog

Stop by ZaM's blog for a teaser from Names Can Never Hurt Me. It is short, but length was requested to be short. I guess that is why it is a teaser. She is also offering a giveaway. (A book from my back long.) For some, that is not incentive to visit HER blog because you might already have my books. Well, I am thinking of a "contest" on my own blog that I will post on Thursday or Friday. So come back.

As far as ZaM's blog, please do stop over and say HI. It is nice of her to include us lesser known authors because she is SOOO prolific and SOOO well known. LOVE Za Maxfield! I'm also going to be on Alisa Rolle's blog sometime so I will have to let you know they day. I have a special snippet in mind for her blog that none but TWO have read.

Note: To Dawn Tate. I remember that you won a copy of NAMES! WAAAY BACK WHEN! So don't worry, I have your e-mail address ;)

This is short, but that is because you are supposed to hop over to ZaM's Blog.

THE CHALLENGE is that um, this book hasn't been released yet. If the names of the characters are blotted out, which ones would you fit in there?

Well, I have posted this particular excerpt before. In it's entirety. It is the Prologue of the book. Do you remember the characters? Hint, one starts with an "N". Do you remember who was kissing in the scene I shared? Hmmm. That is the question!

If you need more hints, I bet the excerpt is elsewhere on my blog, OR posted on the Wade Brigade's wall.

Go.

Go NOW.
