Friend Friday - TM Smith

Today's Friend Friday post is from someone sort of new to me. I have not met Tammy, but look forward to it! We started interacting on Facebook because of GRL and her desire to help promote the supporting authors. The DIRTY DOZEN as it were, and I will be posting more on them later, probably September. Tammy, or ™ has been fun to chat with and is EXTREMELY organized from what I can see. She is always ON IT!!! Like ON IT!!! I am very impressed, but I know I will let her down by my inability to be organized sometimes as I am very forgetful. Mostly because i have too many things to remember. Bear with me Tammy, and poke me when you need something.

As with other Friend Friday guests, I gave TM a list of interview questions to answer for the readers.
Here is what she had to say :)

Interview Questions:

WK: What inspires your writing?

TM: Music, movies, books, television, pictures. Music is the main thing though, I have several play lists on youtube and spotify and I forever have something playing in the background while I’m writing. I’m a very visual person, when I see something inspirational, I write about it.

WK: When did you start writing m/m romance?

TM: I started the outline for Opposites in the spring of 2011.

WK: Are you a full time author?

TM: Sadly, no, but I wish! I do have a dreaded day job, but my hope is to eventually start writing full time.

WK: Who is your favorite author?

TM: It is impossible to name just one! Sandrine Gasq-Dion, Andrew Grey and David McAfee are three authors who I will buy their books just because their name is on it.

WK: How many books have you written so far?

TM: 1 novel and 1 novella, I am currently working on my second novel in the series.

WK: Tell us a little about your series.

TM: Opposites is an adult dystopian majorly male/male series that is set a few centuries in the future. The world has survived Global Warming of an apocalyptic scale and a new society that was formed at that time is thriving with same sex couples only laws and rules. Ah but there is that pesky law of nature, you know the one, nature versus nurture.

There is action, suspense, mystery and intrigue as the twins that will be the next rulers meet and marry their matches. But not all is as it seems. Secrets can destroy people.

While there are gay, lesbian and straight couplings and sexual scenes throughout my books… the majority of the couples and scenes are between a couple of hot, sweaty, sexy men. What can I say, I’m an equal opportunity sexist.

WK: How long did it take you to complete it?

TM: Opposites from conception to ebook was roughly two years. The follow up novella, The Library, was only a few months and now I’ve been working on Appearances, book 2, for about a year.

WK: Who is your favorite character in the novel and why?

TM: Why don’t you ask me which one of my children is my favorite! I love all of my characters but I think I have the most fun with Aiyan and Kaden. They are the very definition of soul mates, and it’s just raunchy good fun trying to decide what they will break next.

WK: How much of yourself did you manifest into your favorite character?

TM: One of the twins mothers, Amaya (or Maya), is a rolling bitch on wheels! It is so me, like to a “T”! From the yelling and cussing, to the occasional OCD and constant battle of wills with the kids, it’s pretty close to autobiographical.

WK: When someone reads Opposites, what do you hope they gain from reading it?

TM: Several things, in fact. Love is Love, it knows no gender and doesn’t conform to restrictions or boundaries. Don’t judge that which you don’t understand. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

WK: Can you share three things you’ve learned about the business?

TM: 1. You have to take the good with the bad, for every great review you receive, expect a bad one.
2. Do not, I repeat, Do not engage the haters. It only fuels their fire and makes you look stupid in the end.
3. It has to be about a passion, because if you are in it for the money, you’ve come to the wrong place.

WK: all good things!

WK: How do you keep your creative "spark" alive?

TM: It is hard sometimes, and I’m easily distracted with books or the television. You have to want it, and I really want it. I feed my inner voices with lots of great books and movies, Aiyan and Kaden love those cockyboys while Raven and Tanis prefer a good book and a glass of wine.

WK: What is your suggestion or piece of advice to new and upcoming writers?

TM: You have to have thick skin and brass balls. I’m not even joking, people can be cruel. As I said before, for every like there is a dislike. And while you’d think that if someone doesn’t like your book, they would be adult about it and simply say, “that wasn’t my cup of tea” or something to the like… some people can be downright rude, crude and obnoxious. I’ve seen reviews so heinous, that you want to call the police and report the reviewer for verbal assault, true story. The audacity of some people simply amazes me at times. So be prepared for that. If you don’t respond well to criticism, then seriously consider becoming an author. Or just write and publish but never go online, or to social media, or goodreads, or amazon, or blogs.

WK: Where we can find you on the Internet?

When the dust settled and the water receded Dr. Anthony Smith, one of only a few hundred survivors of GWI, started society anew. Having come to the conclusion that injudicious breeding played a huge role in the destruction of Earth as we knew it in the twenty first century, he worked closely with other survivors to isolate the Dionysus gene. This gene has the ability to manipulate human DNA to ensure that all male children be born gay, and all female children be born lesbians. A new society is born.

In the year 2300 Dr. Smith’s descendants are ushering in the twenty fourth century having maintained control of the government that still rules society. Twins Aiya and Aiyan are preparing to meet their matches and take control of House Gaeland, the current ruling House. But not everything is as it seems.

Love is Love.. it knows no gender and doesn’t conform to restrictions and boundaries. Aiyan has found his soul mate in Kaden, the prince of House Devi that he is matched with and eventually marries. But when the person Aiya falls in love with tests the boundaries put in place after GWI, all hell breaks loose. And in the midst of one secret unraveling, another will emerge. There is a growing anomaly that threatens to destroy over two hundred years of progression. This anomaly is known as Opposites.

Here is a sneak peak at Appearances, coming later this summer.
*this excerpt is from a work in progress, please excuse any grammatical errors. Also, this excerpt may contain content not suitable for youngins’, advisory warning, possible naked men here*

Aiyan stopped at the top of the stairs, in the doorway that led out onto the deck, and took in the breathtaking view. Kaden stood just in front of him with his hands on the railing, his head was leaned back and his eyes were closed. The slight breeze blew his silky hair back and Kaden smiled. Aiyan smiled as well. Kaden faced forward again and leaned down, bracing his arms on the railing and leaned forward slightly. Aiyan came up behind him and wrapped both arms around his waist, leaning in and kissing his neck softly.

“My prince.” Kaden smiled and cocked his head to the side, allowing his husband full access to his neck.

He was rewarded with several chaste kisses along his neck then up to his ear before Aiyan whispered, “Your dad is getting us a bigger bed.” Kaden snorted and Aiyan squeezed him tight, nipping at his ear lobe. He yelped and jerked his head to the side, giving Aiyan a mock glare. He touched his nose to Kadens and closed his eyes, inhaling a deep breath. His pants became impossibly tight as the scents of the ocean, the breeze, and unmistakable Kaden filled him up.

Kaden reached up gripping Aiyan’s chin, he licked up his chin then kissed the tip of his nose before pulling back. “Behave.” He said, but there was a playful hint to his tone. And the gleam in his eyes told Aiyan that behaving was the last thing that Kaden wanted him to do. He turned to walk away then and Aiyan swatted his ass. Kaden jerked and yelped again, making Aiyan smile. He wrapped an arm around Kadens shoulder and they headed toward their room.

Rian lay in bed that night listening to the sounds of the ocean coupled with fits of laughter followed by obvious moans and groans coming from the room next to his. His son and son in law were insatiable. On the one hand he couldn’t be happier that his children had found love, it’s all he ever wanted for them. On the other hand he missed Cirian something awful. Them being separated was becoming a habit, a habit he thought they needed to break, and soon.

Something crashed next door and someone cried out followed by several loud bangs. Rian laughed out loud thinking to himself, “thank god Maya isn’t here, she’d shit a brick, these two cannot go anywhere without wreaking havoc on inanimate objects!” He sighed and rolled over, bringing his pillow with him and wrapping it around his head, praying for sleep to invade.
